w0nderful pulled off a 1v4 clutch with 2HP left on Dust2 and NAVI still lost the series. With NAVI eliminated after a 2-1 loss to G2, the playoff field is now set. NAVI finish Stage 3 at 2-3, placing 9th-11th, and for the first time since the Shanghai Major, Natus Vincere will not be walking out onto the Lanxess Arena floor. G2 secured the last remaining playoff spot with a 3-2 record and head to the quarterfinals in their place.
How the G2 Series Unfolded
The match on June 15 went the full three maps. NAVI took Dust2 13-11 in a fight that had everything, including w0nderful's clutch that briefly made it look like the series was turning. G2 responded on Inferno with a 16-14 win after one of the tightest maps of Stage 3. Mirage went the same way, G2 winning 13-10 to seal it.
G2 earned their spot the hard way, three maps with no comfort on any of them.
How NAVI Lost Stage 3
The G2 loss ended NAVI's tournament but it did not define it. NAVI also dropped series to Team Spirit and Team Falcons across Stage 3. Across the five-match stage, the roster never found the consistency that had previously made deep Major runs feel routine.
For NAVI CS2 fans, the bigger concern is that this roster never looked fully comfortable during Stage 3.
What This Means for NAVI
This is not a team without pedigree. NAVI won the PGL Major Stockholm 2021 without dropping a single map, the first organisation ever to do so. They won PGL Major Copenhagen in 2024 and have accumulated 39 first place finishes across their career. Coach B1ad3 has built two different squads into world class contenders. Cologne 2026 is the first time since Shanghai that none of that translated into a playoff spot.
B1ad3 was direct after the exit: "I can say 'Protect B, don't think about anything else,' and we're stacking A for no reason." That kind of self-awareness is encouraging. Whether it produces a different result at the next Major is the question.
What Comes Next for NAVI CS
NAVI are ranked second in the world. Missing the Lanxess Arena playoff stage at that ranking is not a result anyone inside the organisation will be comfortable with. jL has been on the bench throughout this period and Cologne adds pressure to whatever decisions are coming next.
Who Goes to Lanxess Instead
G2 secured the eighth and final playoff spot and now face Team Spirit in the quarterfinals. G2 arrive as underdogs against a Spirit side that breezed through Stage 3 with donk in the form of his life, which makes it the most interesting match of the opening round.
